A few days before my brothers girlfriend passed away he had boughten her flowers. On the night she passed away she had worn one of the flowers in her hair out to the bar. The flowers sat in the same vase, same water, same spot for over a month.
I had to change the water and give these flowers a better home. My brother wouldn’t let anyone touch them upon first hearing of his girlfriends death and I knew they needed a special home. After much research I decided a shadow box would be perfect. I talked to him about it and wanted to do this project together. Unfortunately the shadow box wasn’t deep enough so I took off the back and the inside border and decided to only use those instead of a full box crushing the flowers. I used card stock that she had chosen to use in a scrapbook she had been working on to give to my brother. She was only able to cut out pieces and choose pages she wanted to use but only finished two pages. It was my brothers suggestion to use this but besides that he stayed away from the project. I could tell it was too hard for him and I tried involving him as much as possible but it hurt I knew.
I cut and cleaned the flowers, hot glued all the petals together, hot glued the flowers to the paper, and hot glued the flowers to the one next to it. I pray this stays together and stays looking nice. I hope I did these flowers justice. I hope I gave him a piece to look at happily. He seemed to enjoy it and thanked me as much as I knew he could.
He isn’t doing well, it’s the whole reason we came to Chicago in the first place. How do you do well after losing your partner though? He is getting help and on the road to recovery but it will be a long road indeed. I love him and I miss her. I truly hope he is happy with what I did with these flowers….
